Anna Fryer for Stretford & Urmston

Save our local environmental and historical heritage: Save Ryebank Fields!

Anna supports Save Ryebank Fields, a local organisation dedicated to protecting Ryebank Fields, adjacent to Longford Park. The Fields are threatened with development into an estate of over 100 expensive houses.

Anna lives very close to the Fields and wants this precious environmental resource to be saved for future generations.

She says: "Ryebank Fields is a vital part of our local ecology, as it's a piece of mostly wild land which hosts dozens of established trees, rare native birds and other animals. It is also home to part of an ancient monument, the Nico Ditch, which dates back to the 9th Century.

"The Nico Ditch is an Anglo-Saxon earthwork which is thought to have marked the boundary between the ancient kingdoms of Mercia and Northumbria. This monument deserves to be preserved in its original setting."
